Albox is a municipality in the province of Almeria in Andalusia.

The municipality of Albox is located in the northeastern part of Valle del Almanzora, approximately 120 km from the provincial capital AlmerĆ­a and just a 20-minute drive from B&B Casa La Vida Feliz where you can stay with Belgians in Almeria.

It is important to know that Albox is a typical traditional market town and also provides all services and facilities. There are shops, banks, post office, restaurants, bars and various builders' merchants. There are several schools for all ages, even adult education, free language courses to master the Spanish language and integrate easily and a 24-hour medical center. The nearest major hospital is in Huercal Overa, approximately 21 km away.

Albox has a municipal swimming pool that is open in July and August, a sports center and a tennis club that also has its own swimming pool. A large market is held every Tuesday morning and a smaller market on Saturday morning.

The climate in Albox

Albox has a temperate climate all year round, as does the whole of the Costa Almeria. The temperature here rarely drops below 18C during the day. During the winter months the nights and mornings are a little chillier but during the day there are generally blue skies and pleasant temperatures most of the time during the day so a jacket is not necessary. During the summer months, daytime temperatures can rise above 30Ā° from May to August. From September, temperatures are milder and fluctuate around 20Ā° to 25Ā° during the day.

There is no shortage of beautiful blue skies in Albox. After all, the sun shines here on average 300 out of 365 days.

Walking route in Albox

The Almanzora railway trail is 12 km long and runs along what used to be the Guadix-Almedricos railway line, between El Chardero de los Canos, where the train collected minerals from Cable de Cabarga San Miguel, and over the metal bridge over the Ramil ravine. This route can be completed on foot or by bicycle and is also accessible for wheelchairs. This walking route also passes in Zurgena where B&B Casa La Vida Feliz is located


Festivals in Albox

The procession of the Three Kings is celebrated on the evening of January 5.


Processions de Semana Santa, dates may vary. This is one of the most important festivals in the province of Almerƭa, with four cofradƭas and one prehermandad. The procession on Martes Santo shows the image of Jesus of Nazareth washing the feet of the disciples, while on the evening of Maundy Thursday, you can see Cristo en la cruz and Nuestra SeƱora de los Dolores under a black canopy. On Good Friday, the processions include Jesus carrying the cross, John, the Virgen de los Primeros Dolores and the crucified Christ; that evening you see the figures of Agony in the Garden, Nuestra SeƱora de la Esperanza and Nuestra SeƱora de los Dolores with her dead son on her lap. The Prehermandadon procession on Easter Saturday features the Stations of the Cross representing the arrest of Jesus in the Huerto de Getsemanƭ.


Romeria de la Virgen de Saliente

Romeria de la Virgen de Saliente is a pilgrimage site that goes from the city to the Monasterio de Saliente on September 8.


Fiestas de la Loma

Fiestas de la Loma is traditionally celebrated in October.


Fiestas de Todos los Santos

Fiestas de Todos los Santos is traditionally celebrated from approximately October 23 to November 1. It owes its origins to an important livestock market and over time became known as the Feria de Todos los Santos. It is currently one of the most important fairs in the province of Almeria.


Festival de Rock

Festival de Rock is traditionally celebrated on the last Friday of October. Held in the city since 1985, it is Spain's longest running rock festival. Five groups, mainly local, play in the recinto ferial (summer festival site) for approximately 4,000 fans.


Vicente Bonil International Chess Open

Vicente Bonil International Chess Open is een schaaktoernooi dat eind november wordt gevierd. In 2017 vierde het zijn 40e evenement. De Club de Ajedrez RevertĆ© AlboxĀ werd in 2005 uitgeroepen tot kampioen schaakteam van Spanje. Albox wordt beschouwd als de 'bakermat van het Spaanse schaak', en een aantal grootmeesters zoals Veselin TopalovĀ en AleksĆ©i DrĆ©yevĀ hebben de stad bezocht.


Gastronomy in Albox

Historical heritage determines a cuisine with special flavors. Albox's gastronomy bases its dishes on the raw materials in its region. Typical dishes include migas, porridge, gurullos, stews and balls, as well as signature dishes prepared in the kitchens of local restaurants. The common denominator is the use of local ingredients such as tomato, onion, garlic, pepper, potatoes, chickpeas, pork, rabbit, black pudding and of course olive oil.

At B&B Casa La Vida Feliz I offer a complete meal every evening consisting of an aperitif, starter, main dish, dessert and a digestif. You can choose from wine, water or soft drinks with these dishes. Every evening we have a theme evening. We sometimes have a Chinese meal, Italian, Indian, Spanish or regular Belgian cuisine.


Of course, after enjoying these delicious meals, you can still enjoy them in our lounge or outside on the terrace with a nice wine in the lovely sunshine.
